Our promises for sustainability
We help you develop and eco-optimize your point-of-purchase materials with responsible design solutions.
- Our values
- Ecodesign
- Our climate strategy
- Our CSR policy
- Continuous improvement
Since 2013, PILOTES has been committed to a collaborative eco-design approach with all the players in our value chain. Our mission is to analyse and improve the environmental performance of your in-store campaigns.
What is Ecodesign?
Ecodesign involves integrating environmental considerations right from the product design phase. It’s an innovative methodology aimed at rethinking products to optimize resources, energy, transportation, waste reduction, and more.
By reducing environmental impact, we not only produce higher-value POS advertising but also contribute to cost savings (a principle we call “ecolonomy”).
Our Approach
Our comprehensive approach is built around three objectives, each addressing a critical phase of our value chain:
- UPSTREAM: Strengthening Supply Chain Skills
We are committed to continuously improving our value chain by collaborating with our local industrial partners and enhancing the expertise of those involved in procurement and subcontracting. This ensures high standards of quality, ethics, and performance are upheld from the very beginning of the process.
- INTERNALLY: Embracing and Refining Our Eco-Design Practices
Our dedication to eco-design is reflected in a robust internal process that optimizes material selection, incorporates sustainable design practices, and adheres to strict quality and ethical standards. This ensures that our products are intrinsically sustainable, aligning with our vision for long-term environmental responsibility.
- DOWNSTREAM: Delivering High-Value Environmental Solutions
We are focused on creating merchandising solutions that provide significant environmental value. Our goal is to design point-of-sale displays and commercial furniture that minimize ecological impact while fully meeting customer needs and expectations.
The 8 Ecodesign Criteria at Pilotes
- Optimizing Incoming Flows : Prioritizing local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions and support local economies.
- Optimizing Material Use : Selecting appropriate quantities and lighter materials that align with the product’s intended lifespan.
- Focusing on Recycled, Recyclable, and Renewable Materials : Choosing sustainable materials, such as labeled wood, and leveraging our in-house materials library, which tracks the environmental impact of regularly used materials.
- Adapting Products to In-Store Lifespans : Designing solutions that evolve and adapt to specific retail conditions while optimizing their long-term usability.
- Reducing Production Waste : Implementing efficient production methods to minimize waste generation.
- Optimizing Customer Logistics : Reducing packaging and palletizing to decrease transported volumes and improve efficiency.
- Minimizing Transportation Impact : Prioritizing flat-packing, modular designs, and full truckloads to reduce carbon emissions.
- Reducing Energy Consumption : Incorporating energy-efficient technologies to minimize energy use throughout the product lifecycle.
- Planning for End-of-Life : Designing solutions with sustainability in mind, enabling reuse and recyclability for responsible end-of-life management.
At Pilotes, these criteria embody our unwavering commitment to sustainable practices. They reflect our ambition to forge strong partnerships based on performance, respect for the environment, and continuous improvement. We are dedicated to collaborating with you to bring eco-designed, responsible projects to life.
Our tools for eco-analysis
By using our tools, we help you to make informed decisions about your POP materials and reduce your environmental footprint:
ECO-PLV is our in-house life cycle assessment (LCA) tool, developed by our engineers in 2013. Analyzing the environmental impact of your POP materials, it considers all stages of a material's life, from production to disposal. ECO-PLV is certified by external specialists and constantly being improved. Contact us to learn more about using ECO-PLV for your sustainable projects.
SHOP!SKOR, the industry-standard LCA tool developed by our trade association SHOP!Association, uses scientific methods to assess the impacts of POP materials throughout their lifecycle. SHOP!SKOR takes into account 16 impact indicators, which are aggregated into a single score in micro points. SHOP!SKOR helps with:
- understanding the environmental impact of your POP materials.
- for redesign initiatives, choosing materials, finishes, packaging, and production processes that minimize environmental impact.
- communicating the environmental benefits of your POP materials and redesign initiatives to your team, suppliers, and customers.
The SHOP!ECO certification program is developed by retail experts and validated by the environmental agency ADEME. It confirms a manufacturer's commitment to continuous improvement in eco-design practices. Pilotes received this certification in 2015 and renews it every two years to ensure our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Pilotes contributes to carbon neutrality and is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
This ambitious decarbonisation strategy is built around 3 essential and complementary pillars, inspired by Carbone 4's “Net Zero Initiative”:
As part of our commitment against climate change since 2013, Pilotes aspires eco-friendly designs for sustainable POP solutions. With externally recognised and continuously improving eco-design methods, we measure and strive to avoid or reduce environmental and climate impacts. For you to fully understand the impacts of your POP material, we assess its life cycle and calculate its eco-score ...
... but avoiding and reducing impact is not the same as compensating.
Since 2022, we have decided to contribute further to global carbon neutrality. We compensate part of the unavoidable emissions from your POP materials. From our sustainability plan emerge carbon credits, verified by Bureau Veritas.
Today, we are proud of our long-term partnership with EcoTree*. Together, we invest in restoring forests and biodiversity on depleted local farmland.
Thanks to these actions, we're taking tangible, local action on greenhouse gas emissions with you!
* EcoTree is an actor in the creation, restoration and preservation of our ecosystems. Its mission is to safeguard, enhance and renew forests, raise awareness of biodiversity and restore and protect ecosystems.
